I heart...centerpieces

Well, actually I heart fabulously frugal and simple centerpieces, particularly those that can be made with something that I already have around the house. This post requires a bit of explanation because the centerpiece idea featured here must be credited to my dear friend, Brooke. I can always count on her to throw a fabulous party. Seriously, her parties are pretty much legendary in our social circle; the main reason is that Brooke is an incredible hostess and makes you feel like family in her home. The phrase "mi casa es su casa" was not lost on her. But not only is she a delightful hostess, she doesn't miss any detail from food to drinks to favors(!) to decorations to themed music. Her Cinco de Mayo fete was complete with Mexican-themed music (obviously Senorita by JT was in the rotation), eats, treats and decor. She decorated her food table with votives carved into lemons and limes - gorgeous, cheap and simple! Much to my surprise (and delight!), she waltzed downstairs a little while later with my very own votive candle carver. I am a lucky girl!

This little tool is small, but heavy and has a sharp blade. It creates a cylindrical-shaped cut and is easily removed to be replaced by a votive candle. The opportunities to use this little tool are endless - pumpkins or gourds for the fall, watermelons in summer, lemons or limes for Cinco de Mayo or other 'bright' occasions, apples and pears for the Christmas holidays. I'm hoping to use some fall produce for a bridal shower in September. What fruit (or veggie) would you carve for a centerpiece or party decor?

They are sold at amazon here.
